Case Study

Helping Make Miracles with Invisible Audio Solutions

Katarzyna Krakowiak Balka’s project "Where does any Miracle start?" explored the relationship between architecture, nature, and sound through a complex sound installation. Inspired by the natural and structural acoustics of the Jeu de Paume and Tuileries Garden, the installation utilized seismic sensors to capture and transform the hidden sounds of the environment and architecture, such as insect movements and vibrations.

Integrating Invisible Sound for Artistic and Outdoor Spaces

The challenge was to implement an audio solution that could bring Krakowiak’s soundscapes to life without visible speakers disrupting the aesthetic integrity of both the gallery and the garden. In an outdoor environment like Tuileries Garden, additional considerations included ensuring the durability of the audio system, which would need to withstand various weather conditions, while maintaining audio clarity.

SSP6 Multiducer™ Technology Indoors and Outdoors

Revolution Acoustics provided the perfect solution with our SSP6 Multiducer™ speakers. These devices transformed rigid surfaces, including walls, sculptures, and natural structures like trees, into sound emitters. This allowed the soundscapes to blend seamlessly into both the gallery and the outdoor spaces, maintaining the integrity of Krakowiak’s artistic vision while ensuring high-quality sound delivery.

Indoors at the National Galerie, the SSP6 Multiducers™ were hidden within the gallery’s architecture, allowing the sound to resonate throughout the space without disrupting the modern interior. This integration supported Krakowiak’s concept of amplifying hidden sounds, creating a sensory experience that reflected the building’s architecture.

Outdoors in the Tuileries Garden, the same technology was embedded into benches, trees, and sculptures, allowing sound to naturally emerge from the environment. The IP66 rated SSP6 Multiducers™ ensured that the system could resist rain, dust, and temperature variations while providing even sound coverage throughout the open garden.

Collaboration with the Artist and Installation

The success of this project relied on close collaboration between Revolution Acoustics and Katarzyna Krakowiak Balka, whose soundscapes required precise audio delivery. The soundscapes, capturing seismic and environmental sounds from both the gallery and the garden, were amplified to create an immersive experience that blurred the line between nature and architecture.

Revolution Acoustics worked closely with Krakowiak’s team to ensure the sound was not only invisible but also capable of delivering her intricate compositions without interference. The use of SSP6 Multiducers™ allowed her installation to seamlessly connect the indoors and outdoors, creating a unified auditory experience across both spaces.

Immersive, Invisible Soundscapes that Preserve Cultural Integrity

The installation successfully delivered Krakowiak’s soundscapes while preserving the visual integrity of the Tuileries Garden and National Galerie. Visitors experienced an immersive auditory environment where sound emerged from the very architecture and landscape, enhancing Krakowiak’s exploration of the hidden sounds of the natural world and human-made structures.

The invisible nature of the SSP6 Multiducer™ technology allowed Krakowiak’s soundscapes to integrate with both spaces without the need for visible speakers, amplifying her exploration of sound and space without detracting from the aesthetics of the environment.
